The client has a secure extranet hosted on SharePoint to provide technical product information to customers and distributors. This extranet was originally developed with the assistance of Rex. However, the underlying platform needed to be upgraded with the passage of time.
Rex used their expertise in SharePoint and .NET custom development to install the new SharePoint 2013 system and to upgrade the considerable number of custom components and the databases.
A key requirement was to preserve the functionality, look and feel of the extranet even though the underlying platform was changing from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2013, so as to remove any need to re-train the considerable number of external users.
Rex provided the full suite of professional services required to install the new SharePoint 2013 platform and the interim SharePoint 2010 platform, upgrade all the custom components to SharePoint 2013 via SharePoint 2010 from SharePoint 2007 and to upgrade all the data to SharePoint 2013 via SharePoint 2010 from SharePoint 2007.
A critical part of the upgrade was to preserve the forms-based authentication, usernames and permissions, even though there were some important changes in this functionality in SharePoint 2013 compared to SharePoint 2007.
The client was able to upgrade their extranet with minimal disruption to users and no need to re-train any users, resulting in a seamless transition and were able to decommission the old platform as part of their global compliance programme.
